How M-PESA Will Partner With Apple And PayPal

In order to broaden the reach of Safaricom’s mobile money application M-Pesa, President William Ruto floated a collaboration between the international IT giant Apple and Safaricom.

After visiting Silicon Valley in San Francisco Bay, the President spoke on Saturday. He added that in order to serve clients worldwide, the new partnership would also include PayPal, another international payment company.

“Safaricom is developing a partnership with Apple Inc to integrate MPESA and the Paypal platform to extend MPESA’s transactional reach globally,” President William Ruto said.

M-Pesa has over 51 million customers and is present in seven countries, according to President Ruto, who praised the service’s reach on the African continent.

Following the recently launched 5G internet network by Safaricom, which made it the fastest in the continent, he claimed that the expansion of M-Pesa was crucial in encouraging connectivity.

“M-PESA is also Kenya’s confident announcement to the world that we are ready, able, and willing to play in the big tech league. Our mobile penetration is the highest on the continent, close to universal. 4G5G coverage is 96%, with major urban centers across the country connected to 5G networks.” President William Ruto stated.

The president of state who met with Apple CEO Tim Cook, Intel’s Pat Gelsinger, Google CFO Ruth Porat, and executives from Nike, GAP, and Levi Strauss pushed the tech giants to invest in Kenya due to the nation’s favorable environment as Africa’s start-up powerhouse.

“The reason for Kenya’s strong performance in attracting VC funding boils down to investor confidence: the knowledge that a start-up that succeeds in Kenya is highly likely to scale to the rest of Africa,” the head of state said.
